History

Our firm was founded in 1943 by Jay Heinick, an entrepreneur with a rare ability to “see what could be.” Through the years, we’ve grown by seizing opportunities for our clients and always looking forward. Today, Apple Growth Partners serves companies in Northeast Ohio from offices in Akron, Westlake and Mayfield Village. Over 100 employees and owners are experienced in providing value added services and growing long-term relationships with our clients and business associates.

1943 - Founded by Jay Heinick to provide income tax services in Akron, Ohio.

1946 - Dan Slavin joins Jay Heinick to form Heinick, Slavin & Co.

1950’s & 1960’s - The firm focuses on core accounting services provided by 20 employees.

1970’s - 1980’s - Audit, Employee Benefits and Computer Support are added to the service offering under the leadership of Stan Apple and supported by over 40 employees.

1985 - The firm is renamed Heinick, Apple & Company, offering full service accounting and business advisory services.

1989 - Kausch & Graf merges with Heinick, Apple & Company to broaden tax and audit services and establish Akron’s premier accounting firm.

1993 - Heinick, Apple & Co. joins the Moore Stephens International Network of Accounting and Advisory firms, gaining access to global resources for its clients.

1993 - Flexible Benefit Systems is established to provide qualified plan design and administration.

1995 - The firm adopts the name Moore Stephens Apple to reflect its regional focus with global resources. Dave Gaino assumes the duties of Managing Partner two years later.

1998 – Hillow Gornik of Westlake merges with the firm to expand its presence with 65 employees serving the Northeast Ohio market.

2004 - Moore Stephens Apple welcomes Turner & Nemeth of Mayfield Village, significantly expanding its Business Valuation and Litigation Consulting services.

2007 - Brott Mardis & Company merges with the firm, bringing additional expertise in trust and estate planning, succession planning, and support for our growing tax and audit practices.

2008 - Apple Growth Partners is the new corporate identity, reflecting the firm's service and business solutions geared toward growing private businesses. With over 100 employees, the firm continues its own growth through strategic planning, service development and adherence to the firm’s core values.
