“Acquisitions Expand Services and Expertise to Clients” by Chuck Mullen, CPA, CMA, MTax, CGMA | Chairman
This has proven to be quite a year of expansion for Apple Growth Partners. We have been extremely fortunate this year to have closed on two strategic acquisitions, KPFF of Beachwood and Schlabig & Associates of Akron/Kent. As with any acquisitions, some benefits are obvious, and some are subtle.
With the KPFF merger, we expanded upon our nearly 20-year presence in the Cleveland market, and with Schlabig, we launched our entry into Portage County. We also added some incredible knowledge and talent to our roster and bolstered our technical bench strength.
Advantages of the Mergers
In this article, I will highlight two additional advantages, the “icing on the cake” if you will, surrounding each of these mergers.
With KPFF, we added the Real Estate industry technical expertise of new principal, Bob Neides, to our already growing Real Estate and Construction niche.
And with Schlabig, our Succession and Retirement Planning services received a significant boost with the extremely specialized skills of new principal, Tom Hager, one of the country’s foremost experts in Social Security planning and taxability.
Added Construction & Real Estate Expertise
Our Construction & Real Estate niche requires a wide breadth of expertise, covering multiple disciplines such as real estate tax credit analysis, bonding & surety assistance, surety approved financial reporting, audit of tenant compliance with lease agreements, tax-free, like-kind exchanges, HUD audits, Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Historic Tax Credits, just to name a few.
Bob Neides brings with him over 30 years of specific experience in all of these areas and more, including all stages – from ownership, to management, development and taxation.
Expansion of Succession and Retirement Planning Services
The one area where it seems every firm can use some help is in the area of Social Security, specifically, in planning ahead for enrollment and integrating Social Security benefits into the client’s overall financial plan. Tom Hager, in this regard, is “Mister Social Security,” literally!
Not only is this designation for him trademarked, but Tom has a history of awards and accolades within his vitae surrounding this topic. Tom was named the National Social Security Association Advisor of the Year in 2014 and is licensed as a National Social Security professional. Tom is certified to educate other advisors and professionals in the area of Social Security and his practice, both in advising and educating, is national.
These two professionals, Bob Neides and Tom Hager, are not only important additions to the culture of Apple Growth Partners as incredible individuals, but also bring with them decades of combined experience in their respective fields, and we are excited to have them on board as principals in our firm.
