“Healthy growth means working with a client to assist them in growing their business in a way and at a rate that is comfortable for them. Growth can mean monetary increase but also other changes such as business product, staff, culture or marketing approach. A business should never remain stagnant.”
MY GROWTH PHILOSOPHY: My favorite thing about helping clients grow their businesses is seeing them achieve things that they didn’t think were possible. To achieve that, I strive to provide stellar client service by responding quickly to their needs, making sure that they have a clear understanding of the issues that they are facing, and thinking proactively on their behalf. I enjoy accounting and tax work because they are like puzzles and you can dig back through trails to figure things out.
MY FAVORITE PART: I enjoy being able to relieve the pressure and anxiety surrounding accounting and tax work. Most clients hate that part of their business. They want to focus on their product or service because that is their passion. When they feel comfortable that we are taking care of that side of the business, they are free to do what they love.
NOTABLE CLIENT SUCCESSES: There is no better endorsement than a long-term client and I’m proud to say I have several. The working history with those clients helps me address current issues more holistically because I am able to leverage my knowledge of the company’s prior tax strategies and how they have evolved over the years.
WHEN I’M NOT WORKING: You’ll find me cheering on my children’s sports careers which have included volleyball, track, cross country, softball, football, baseball and basketball. In my small amount of spare time, I like to read, golf, garden, bike, hike, and spend time with family and friends.
MY BUCKET LIST: Our family has made several trips out West, which have included hiking in the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, and visiting Mt. Rushmore and Pikes Peak. Our family likes to visit major league ballparks in the areas that we vacation. Someday, I would love to travel internationally.
What are some issues within your specialty that are commonly overlooked or not addressed by clients? One of my specialties is heading up the Trust area at AGP. That is an area that very few clients and many accountants don’t know much about. I like being able to decipher complicated trust documents for clients and simplifying things for them so they know how they work.
What are some of the most pressing issues facing your clients today and how do you add value in helping them tackle them? Clients are worried about how governmental changes and the economy are affecting their business. They also worry about the ever-changing tax laws and how they will affect them personally. We try to help by anticipating some of the issues, alerting the client, and actually proactively helping them to make moves to avoid some of them.
